Cooper Phillips

Coach Cooper Phillips is entering his third year as the Head Volleyball Coach at Plano West. Prior to coming to the Wolfpack, Phillips spent 3 years serving as a practice player and Graduate Assistant at the University of Texas Arlington. While at UTA, Phillips helped the Mavericks to a deep run in the NIVC tournament and a win over a top 25 team.

After leaving UTA, Coach Phillips was the Varsity Assistant at Plano Senior for two years while teaching science at Clark HS. He has been coaching club for 9 years, most recently at Drive Nation. While at Drive Nation Phillips has qualified four different teams for nationals in both the USA and National Divisions.

In his time away from coaching, Phillips spends his time bass fishing and spending time with his wife Josie and their dog Maverick

Claudia Paiz

Varsity Assistant Coach – Lady Wolves Volleyball

Coach Claudia Paiz is entering her fourth year as the Varsity Assistant at Plano West and is teaching PE at Rice Middle School. Coach Paiz graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, and just received her master’s degree in Leadership Administration and Policy Studies from the University of Texas Arlington in 2023. Coach Paiz came from El Paso, TX where she was the head coach at Parkland High School for five years. Before that she taught PE and coached middle school volleyball along with other sports for four years. This is Coach Paiz’s 13th year teaching PE and coaching. In her free time, Coach Paiz enjoys spending time with her son Jaxon and husband Bo.

Makenna Wiedower

Coach Makenna Wiedower is entering her third year as the JV1 coach and teacher at Shepton HS. Coach Wiedower received a Bachelors in Physical Education and Health from Williams Baptist University and played four years of collegiate volleyball. She received the Champion of Character award, the NAIA Female athlete of the year, and broke the assist record while playing for Willaims.

Coach Wiedower has an amazing husband Daniel Castro, and a two year old Luna Gene Castro. Also, we have a cocker spaniel named Rupert! In her free time she likes to read, listen to music, garden, and participate in outdoor activities.

Merilyn Sioux Richardson

Coach Richardson is entering her 3rd year as the JV2 coach for Plano West. She teaches Professional Communications at Jasper High School. Coach Richardson has a background in Media Arts and Communications from the University of North Texas. Outside of coaching, Coach Richardson enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and pets.

Rachel Bass

Coach Rachel Bass is entering her 2nd year as the Freshman coach for Plano West. She teaches Health and PE at Shepton High School. Coach Bass has a background in kinesiology from Texas Woman’s University. Coach Bass’ journey in coaching began in 2013 at her alma mater, in Irving. As the Women’s Athletic Coordinator at Shepton, she champions inclusivity, empowerment, and excellence among her athletes.

Outside of coaching, Coach Bass cherishes moments hanging out with her family, finding joy and relaxation in their company.

Coach Bass is deeply invested in the success and well-being of each athlete, and she looks forward to continuing her impactful work this year!

Shannon Brooks

Coach Brooks is entering her 3rd year coaching Freshman for Plano West, and she teaches Health at Jasper High School. Coach Brooks has been with Plano for 7 years coaching and teaching. Coach Brooks graduated from West Texas A&M with bachelors in Sports and Exercise science and recently got her masters in Sports Management. Coach Brooks has 23 years coaching experience in a variety of sports and is going into her 14th year of teaching. In her free time she enjoys spending time with her 3 kids Tony (27), Jaylan (23), and Airianna (21).

Kelsey Thomson

Coach Thomson, most call her Coach T, has been coaching volleyball for four years. She began her career in a little town called De Leon and came to Renner Middle School in 2023 where she coached the 8th grade girls volleyball teams and won 1st and 2nd at the city tournament. Coach T graduated from Tarleton State University with a bachelors of Science and a Masters in Sports Administration. She has a 5 month old son, named Bekam. Coach T will be teaching science at Jasper High School and coaching volleyball at Plano West. She is looking forward to becoming a part of the wolf pack family!
